Fit of Rage

My computer keeps freezing up when I have iTunes open. Last night, I was so frustrated my mouse took a little beating. It's not working so well tonight. The question is...should I get a new mouse, or get a new computer with more memory, faster processor, etc?

I've never had much luck starting plants as seeds; I didn't have very high expectations when I planted a bunch last week.

Imagine my surprise when I went out to water and *eek* tiny little plants sprouting up! Hooray....now if I can keep them growing.

High Hopes

Last weekend started out with high hopes. I planned to visit the opening day of the Farmer's Market, wander the gardens at Temple Square and the surrounding complex, maybe even attend a free concert in the park.

Alas, it all fell by the wayside for 2 whole days of laying around and getting nothing done, but the laundry. But next weekend....next weekend is a whole new ballgame.

2006 Book Update

In the very long time since I've posted about the books I've read I actually managed to finish quite a few:

5th Horseman
James Patterson

In the 5th installment of the women's murder club series, people are mysteriously dying in a local hospital. When someone close to the club dies, the women are on the case. Nice, fluffy little book to get me through all the packing.


The Dancer Upstairs
Nicholas Shakespeare

In an unnamed South American country a former police officer recounts how he captured a notorious criminal, and how he lost he heart in the process. This was just a really lovely, beautifully written book. I enjoyed it a lot.


A Wrinkle in Time
Madeline L'Engle

First time I'd read this book and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.


The Lovely Bones
Alice Sebold

A young murder victim watches from heaven as her killer goes unpunished, her family falls apart, and everyone moves on with their lives. This book started out really strong. I was completely engaged on the first page; unfortunately toward the end it got more and more out of control. I still recommend it, but only half-heartedly.

What can I say? A classic to be enjoyed time and time again.

Wolves Eat Dogs
Martin Cruz Smith

A suspicious suicide of a new Russian millionaire, and the murder of another lead
back to Chernobyl. The plot left a bit to be desired. I had a hard time keeping everyone straight, but the facts about radiation and the (fictional) account of the current day "hot zone" were positively fascinating.

Weekend Recap

Friday: One of my co-workers retired and there was a big bash at the Bayou.

Saturday: In the morning I planted several pots of seeds that I bought before the move. I've not had great luck with seeds, but decided to try some shade-loving varieties. I nixed my plans to go visit my folks due the road closures affiliated with the Salt Lake Marathon. Saturday night K&N came and got their first look at the new digs, followed by dinner at the Chihuahua.

Sunday: Pride Day in SLC and since the parade route went right past my building I ventured down to the lawn and danced it up. One of the good things about the Pride Parade: lots of good music. The theme this year was "Pride, not Prejudice". Around 2:30 my brother called and asked if he and R could come use my pool, so while they swam, I shopped and then finished my container garden. After they were done in the hot tub we headed out for dinner at Cafe Pierpont.

Google Earth

Google Earth is my new favorite thing. I spent hours looking up my address, everyone in my family, churches, schools, the Grand Canyon, Red Square, the Eiffel Tower. I've been reading a book that takes place in the "zone" of Chernobyl and I was able to find the reactors.

Definitely, cool.
