Just for your information, I am writing this from a hotel lobby in Virginia. The great vacation (Round 1) of 2008 has begun, and apparently, the Pope will be in town tomorrow.

I however, will be driving through Shenandoah National Park and visiting Monticello.

Back East

We leave next week for the big trip. It's a completely packed itinerary that will leave me needing a vacation, a vacation that I will take when I go to Alaska in May.

People keep asking where I'm going and I've taken to saying "back East". It started out as DC, but then I kept adding places in different states, and further and further away. I actually wish that I was staying at least twice as long so I could add more, and stay longer at some places. (One day in New York?! Not nearly sufficient!)

This trip will take me through 6 states and to 13 places on The List. I'm simultaneously excited and disappointed. So excited to go and see all these places and all this history, and disappointed because I won't get to see or do everything I want.

I take comfort in the fact that I'll have to revisit at least New York because I cannot live without having seen The Met.

I am in love with Viggo Mortensen. I had a crush on him in Witness, which was solidified in Young Guns II, "Sheriff, I need to have a movement." and made certain in various other movies culminating with Eastern Promises.

5 Things

1-There was an earthquake today in Wells, Nevada. We felt it here, I was shaken awake.

2-I am sick, SICK!, of winter. It snowed again this morning, and I want spring!

3-I just spent nearly $1000 on my car. The check engine light came on late Saturday night (I was afraid my car would explode, but I was told that hardly ever happens.) and it turned out to be a faulty catalytic converter. Add to that the new tires, alignment, oil change, etc. etc. and it was expensive. Not as expensive as a monthly car payment, but still.

4-I'm starting to really work on the itinerary for my trip in April. My wish-list includes 18 things (in 5 states and DC) from the list, but I'll probably cut out 4-5 in order to make it do-able in a week.

5-I need to do my taxes. Since I sold the house in 2006, this will take approximately 10 minutes because I can again use the EZ forms.
